In the evening of Friday, June 11th, at St Peter’s Hospital, wife, best friend, tutor, and talented wife of John. Vickie succumbed to a liver condition she had been battling for many years.


Vickie was born and raised in Mount Hope, Ontario, the oldest daughter of Anita and Walter (Mick) Miles and sister of Dave (Laurette) Miles, Bonnie (Al) Wilson and Susan (Elwood) Linklater. Loving aunt of Kyle, Leah, Elizabeth, Jackalyn, Andrew and David; Stepmother to Michael Reiding and Yvonne (Todd) May.

Vickie attended Mount Hope and Southcote Public Schools and taught Sunday school at the Mount Hope United Church in her teenage years, while also working part-time at both the local bank branch and Southern Pines Golf Club dining room.


After graduating from high school, Vickie was employed as bookkeeper / administrator at several Hamilton companies including Intermetco, Russel Steel, Darnell Accounting, and the Hamilton Construction Association as well as operated her own bookkeeping service, Mikes-Brown Accounting. She was Vice President of e=mz2 in Burlington, developing computer learning programs using the skills obtained while attending Mohawk College and McMaster University. She later applied her organizational and social skills as secretary / manager of the Business Executive Organization (BEO) and finished her career at the Population Health Research Institute at McMaster University/Hamilton Health Sciences.
During her career Vickie contributed much of her time to Community service. She served as the first woman President of the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), organizing fundraising projects, such as parking at Ti-Cat football games, and was part of the JCI TROT Trainer team, facilitating public speaking courses at Jaycee clubs throughout Ontario. Vickie was honoured with the title “Junior Chamber International Senator” in recognition of her many accomplishments and years of service. As a past president of Zonta Club Hamilton 2, Vickie represented Zonta at International conferences as well as being nominated by Zonta as the Woman of the Year. Vickie was involved with the Hamilton International Children’s Games in 2000, served on the Hamilton Historic Board, Football Hall of Fame board, and the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Patient and Family Advisory Council.


Vickie loved to entertain family and friends, with a passion for cooking. She successfully passed the Mensa IQ examination and with a high score.


Vickie was a long-time member of both Olivett United Church and Barton Stone United Church where she was elected the (first Female) trustee.


Special thanks in the last months of Vickie’s life to the medical team at the Juravinski and St. Peter’s Hospitals; in particular, Chaplain Ann Van Den Burg. Special thank you to our family, friends, and neighbours.
Private Cremation has taken place. Once more people are allowed at outdoor gatherings, the family will invite family and friends to attend the burial of Vickie’s cremated remains at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
