BENTLEY, William Ronald (Ron) Ron passed away peacefully with his wife of 64 years, Eleanor (nee Barlow) and baby sister Alma (Ken MacMillan) by his side, in his 88th year, at Hamilton General Hospital on October 25, 2019.
Predeceased by his parents Howard and May, in-laws Richard and Edith, older sister Lois (Dave Lockman) and son Tim. Ron leaves behind his children Howard (Wendy), Michael, Kevin, Margaret and Jayne (Kenny James), grandchildren John (Renée), Chris (Karen), Trevor (Corry), Jeremy (Tina – deceased), Damien (Lisa), Allyson, Erica (Jeremy), T.L. (Steve), Zachery and George, great-grandchildren Doug, Erin (Daniel), Andrew, Ryan, Alex, Kai, Piper (deceased), Emily, John E., Annabelle, Nolan, Kiera, Isaac, Erik, Prudence, Liam, Rowan, Amelia and Evelyn, and great-great-grandson Gavin as well as his beloved cat, Timmers 2.
Ron also leaves behind his chosen family Greg and Linda (Weishaar), Nicholas (Julie), Lucas (Stephanie) and Emma (Ryan). Survived by his brothers Richard (Gloria) and Tom (Janice) and many nieces and nephews, as well as good friends Sheila and Ron (McNair) and Kelly. Ron retired from Canada Post after 35 years and enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball, camping and picnics with the family, and square and round dancing. He was an avid enthusiast of bi-planes and a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Hamilton Tiger Cats. Huge thanks to the doctors and nurses of 7 West, Hamilton General Hospital, and for the hospitality of the staff at Jack Astor’s Eastgate for taking care of Ron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to IODE Provincial Services Fund, as he was an honorary member. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 30th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at L.G. WALLACE FUNERAL HOME (151 Ottawa Street North, Hamilton, 905-544-1147).
