BLANEY, William Burton “Bill” 1924 – 2019 Passed away peacefully in his 95th year.

Predeceased by his twin brother John “Jack”, brother Edward, mother Winnifred and father Edward. Remembered with love by his close friends Bob, Dawn and Ron, his nieces and nephews Lisa, Cheryl, Mark, Dwayne and Byron as well as many other friends.

Bill was born in Hamilton and spent his entire life in Hamilton. He lived through the great depression and 2nd world war. Bill made friends everywhere he went; his passions were Hockey, Football and the INDY 500. An athlete in his youth, he was selected to attend baseball training camp for the St. Louis Cardinals and almost drafted to the Ottawa rough riders but chose a career at Dofasco instead. Bill (“Wild Bill”) was a 36 year employee of Dofasco where he worked as a crane operator.

Bill played hockey in the Dofasco League and Industrial League at the Hamilton Double Rinks as well as the Dundas Olympic Arena. He along with his twin brother also played defence for the Hamilton Whiz Kids Hockey Team in the Hamilton Oldtymers Hockey League. He also coached a girl’s hockey team. He enjoyed travelling in the US. His favorite destinations were Indianapolis and Arizona.

Many thanks to the medical team at Juravinski Hospital F5 Medicine and the staff at Abington Court Retirement Residence for their outstanding care and compassion.

Bill will be greatly missed by his friends in Canada and the USA. Forever in our hearts and memories.

Visitation will take place at TRUSCOTT, BROWN & DWYER FUNERAL CHAPEL , 1309 King Street East (across from Gage Park at the Delta), Hamilton on Sunday, March 24th from 1-3 p.m. A celebration of life and funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home chapel on Monday, March 25th at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Woodland Cemetery.
