DE MARINIS, Giovanna (nee Zavarella)

DE MARINIS, Giovanna (nee Zavarella) It is with profound sadness and shattered hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Giovanna De Marinis, on March 3, 2019, at the age of 79.

Beloved and devoted wife of 58 years to the late Graziano. Loving mother to Dana Memmolo (Sarino) and Domenic (Sonia). Precious nonna to Amanda and Andrew, Paul, Eric, and Jessica. Great-grandmother (nina) to Lily. Predeceased by parents Luigi Rocco and Maria and brothers Aldino and Domenico and sisters Anna and Imperia. She will also be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends in Canada, U.S. and Italy (Donato and Maria Assunta Santilli and family).

Giovanna was the epitome of generosity. In her selfless lifetime she always put everyone first and never asked for anything in return. We have been blessed with her guidance, strength and endless love. Despite all of her hardships through her childhood, words cannot describe her strength and courage. She was a pillar of strength who remained dedicated and devoted to her family and friends. When she lost the love of her life, her strength and courage persevered in an effort to remain strong and independent. Giovanna never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family and proudly supported her grandchildren in all facets of their lives. She was a remarkable woman with many passions. She was an amazing cook, baker, seamstress, and gardener. Her happiest and proudest moments were family gatherings around the table, talking and laughing while enjoying her delicious meals. She also enjoyed reading and keeping up with current affairs. Giovanna leaves behind a powerful lasting legacy of love, caring and devotion to all of her family members. Her passing has left us with an emptiness and deep sorrow. She is the best part of us and will be forever in our hearts.
