Dimitrijs “Jim” FILATOVS

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dimitrijs “Jim” Filatovs on February 27, 2021 at the age of 92 at the Emmanuel House Hospice. Dimitrijs was born in Daugavpils, Latvia on August 7, 1928. Jim leaves behind his loving wife Ira of 70 years. Loving father of Rayisa (Ron) Wilcox, Lidia Claudia (Ted) Berestecki, and Kathy (Dan) Harding.

Cherished grandpa of Sheryl, Joel (Elizabeth), Jason (Shelly), Michael, and Jennifer (Wahaj). Caring great grandpa of Chelsey, Megan, Evan, Julia, Elyzah, Ameerah, Haashir, Alivia and Emma and great-great grandpa of Alexander. He will also be missed by his niece Stephanie and his nephew Jeffrey. Jim will be fondly remembered and missed by extended family and friends. Jim retired from Stelco Hilton Works in 1987 after 37 years of service in the Coke Ovens.

After retirement Jim became an avid runner with the Hamilton Harriers of the YMCA, completing many Bay Races in the city of Hamilton including 3 marathons. He enjoyed playing cards with his wife Ira at the Rosedale Senior Club where he made many new friends.

A special thank you to the many Doctors, Nurses and caregivers for their support and compassion through these difficult times. Due to Covid 19 Restrictions a private cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In memory of Jim, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
