DEWEY, Gerald Joseph (born United States) 1934 – 2018 Gerald Dewey, aged 84, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Son of the late Casimir L. Duszynski and the late Mary F. (Dukai) Duszynski. Born July 19, 1934 in South Bend, Indiana, Gerald and his wife Harriette Mary (Kil) Dewey were married on November 19, 1955 in South Bend and settled in Montreal, Quebec from 1968 to 2009, where they raised a family and built a life together. They moved to Welland, Ontario in 2009. Gerald was first and foremost a devoted, loving husband and father and was a Professor of Sociology from 1957 – 1997. Gerald earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from The University of Notre Dame, IN and taught at the University of Albuquerque, NM, Nazareth College, MI, Loyola College of Montreal and Concordia University of Montreal where he served as Chair of the Sociology Department from 1984 – 1987. Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Harriette Mary Dewey. He is survived by his three children: Kevin (Grace), Rebecca (Robert), Eric (Sandra), his five lovely grandchildren: Andrew, Roxanne, Amanda, Tanya, Justin, and two great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Everly. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in the United States. Gerald’s love and guidance will be cherished forever in our hearts. One of the great men, who was also good. A ‘Celebration of Life’ ceremony for family and friends to pay homage to him will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, Ontario L4G 6W8, 905-727-5421 at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018.
