GIBBON, Robert Edward

GIBBON, Robert Edward March 29, 1948- October 18, 2018 The family of Robert Gibbon announce that Bob died peacefully on October 18th. We are relieved that his suffering is over, sad that he has gone from us, and proud of his many accomplishments.

He was a passionate and talented gardener both indoors and out. He nurtured many species of plants including heritage potatoes, grafted apple trees, orchids, gardenias and hibiscus. He was a great cook and creator of apple pies, breads, pizza, homemade cheese and sausage; he made wine and was a gifted landscape photographer. He hiked, biked, camped and canoed all across Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland.

He was a longtime employee of Sears Canada, and a member of the Hamilton Camera Club, the Orchid Society, past President of Amateur Winemakers of Ontario, founding member and longstanding President of The Other Hamilton Wine Club, and an accredited judge with the Wine Judges of Canada.

Bob was a much loved member of our family, youngest son of Shirley and the late Jim Gibbon; a brother to Brian and Bruce, and sister Catherine; a father to Frank Brillinger and his wife Sally and their children Jack and Molly, an uncle to nine nieces and nephews. He was a friend to many, particularly the late Lorraine Novak (2017) and Werner Lichtenberger.

Thanks to the Cancer Assistance Program, Dr. McCarty, the Hamilton General Hospital Acute Medicine and Palliative teams with a special thanks to Dr. Tammy Ryan and Dr. Tallman.

We will honour Bob’s remarkable life with a Memorial Service at St. Stephen-on-the-Mount Anglican Church, 625 Concession St., Hamilton at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 26th, followed by a reception in the church hall.

For those who wish to make memorial donations, we suggest the Nature Conservancy of Canada to honour his love of the Canadian landscape. Condolences, memories and photos may be left at www.circleoflifecbc.com
