GUSTAV (GUSZTI) LOVRICS

LOVRICS, GUSTAV (GUSZTI) March 12, 1931 – February 18, 2021 Gustav passed away peacefully at home, three weeks before his 90th birthday. He was loved and will be missed by his children Joseph (Katy), Elizabeth (Matt), Peter (Jill), Edmund and Tom (Arlene), and his eight grandchildren Jennifer (Connor), Emily (David), Helen (Dan), Diane (Brett) Lydia (Marco), Sarah, Olivia (Josiah) and Nicholas (Aliya), and 2 great-grandsons Finnigan and Carter.

He was predeceased by his former wife of 42 years (Esther Somogyi-Toth), and 9 siblings. His youngest sister Violet lives in Switzerland. Guszti was born in Pecs, Hungary, in 1931. He survived WWII and Soviet rule. He fled Hungary during the 1956 Revolution with fellow university students and his future wife. After arriving in Toronto, he married, started a family and a new life. He embraced Canada and its opportunities, where ambition and effort were rewarded. His six siblings joined him here, and they all went on to prosper. In 1969, Gustav started GL Construction Co., a successful piping company, working for Texaco, Esso and Shell throughout Ontario for more than 40 years.

Gustav was admired for his enthusiasm, diligence and curiosity by family, friends, colleagues and clients. He was generous in all aspects of his life and keenly interested in world affairs, history, antiques and new technology. He strove for himself and his family, and he provided his children every opportunity possible. He encouraged them to see the world, and he did the same whenever he could. The family cottage which he built himself, was his pride and joy; it was a place for friends and family to gather and became the source of many cherished memories. His large family was a source of great comfort, especially his grandchildren. He loved hearing about their lives, sharing memories and advising them.

In recent years, his health declined, and his medical challenges grew. But he never lost his sharp mind, wit, inner strength, and fighting spirit. Every hospital admission served as a challenge to get back home, and he defied many medical predictions. He carried on until his heart could go no farther. Gustav was loved and will be forever missed by the many people he touched
