Harold (Red) HOBSON

HOBSON, Harold (Red) Sunrise: September 16, 1928 Sunset: September 21, 2018 What a wonderful journey it has been for Red Hobson – father, grandfather, electrician, golfer and friend to all he met.

Red passed away peacefully in his sleep at 90 years of age after a 4 month battle with cancer. Red was greatly loved by his family Dave (Marie), Don (Kate) and Lisa and his grandchildren Sarah (Drew), Luke (Keyra), Kelly, Craig and Bryan. He was loved and will be missed by his companion Kathryn. He is survived by his sister Irene and his brother John (Shirley) and many nephews and nieces. To say that Red was one-of-a-kind would be an understatement. He was a remarkable person who excelled in all of his personal, business and athletic pursuits. Renowned for his infectious optimism, once you met Red you never forgot him and you were friends for life.

His many accomplishments and activities were boundless. He developed and created the temporary power Trade Show Division at Ainsworth Electric and went on to develop temporary mechanical services and staging and lighting services. He orchestrated the creation of SHOWTECH Power & Lighting serving the premier show facilities in Canada. In addition, Red helped start the Don Victoria Softball League and the Parkwoods Civitan Hockey League to promote youth sports. In 1983, Red was honoured by being awarded the EDAC Member of the Year. In 1994, Red was inducted into the CAEM Hall of Fame. His love of family was paramount and he held a special place in his heart for his 5 grandchildren. Cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life will be held on October 4th at Angus Glen Golf Club (10080 Kennedy Rd., Markham), at 3:00 p.m. According to Red’s wishes, golf attire is requested. Condolences, as well as favourite stories, photos and fond memories of Red would be appreciated by the family and may be forwarded to dhobson@rogers.com.

Heartfelt thanks to all of the care workers, doctors and nurses at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, Markham Stouffville Hospital and family and friends who helped Red in his final journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations, in memory of Red (Harold) Hobson be directed to Autism Ontario or a charity of your choice.
