HOWARD, Charles Gordon

HOWARD, Charles GordonĀ Charlie was born August 27, 1932, in Simcoe, Ontario, passed away peacefully at age 86 on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian (Toppy) nee Biggley, his five children, Tom (June), Ron (Adam), Suzie Whyte (Bob), Doug (Lisa) and Vicky Howard-Lech (Greg). He is also survived by his sister Helen Biggley, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Charlie was a respected Tool and Dye Designer for 43 years at J.I. Case (formerly International Harvester). He touched many lives through his involvement in coaching both Hamilton Police Minor hockey and baseball and was awarded Ontario Coach of the Year. He always stayed active and physically fit through his love of daily exercise, weight lifting, cross-country skiing, bowling, volleyball, and lawn bowling. He never shied away from a competitive game of washers or bean bags, even if the competition were his grandkids! He was a jack of all trades, from fixing cars to building his own house from the ground up, always willing to happily lend a hand without being asked. His love of music began in his teens when he played the clarinet/ saxophone in a Jazz Band and continued throughout his life. Even in his final years, Alzheimer’s may have taken his mind but music could still light up his soul. Charlie lived life to its fullest for as long as he could. He will be missed dearly by many. Dance on Dad!

A private family service to be held at a later date. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
