James William (Jim) Cottrell

Passed away July 30, 2017 at the age of 64 years at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton surrounded by his family. Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Margaret, son Michael (Angie), daughter Paula (Ryle), much loved grandson Parker and future grandson Carter. He was predeceased by his mother Ellen and sister June. Jim is survived by his father, William, three sisters and two brothers and their spouses.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life has already taken place in the Kemble Sarawak United Church on August 20, 2017, a quaint country church built in 1885, a meeting place for area residents, full of memories and good times.

Jim started his career with Procter and Gamble in Hamilton starting in the warehouse where he remained for most of his career. During this time he advanced to become proficient as an SAP coordinator and made many trips to Procter and Gamble’s head office in Cincinnati.

After 32 years Jim took early retirement and was able to spend more time at his cottage on Sky Lake. In 2011, he moved to Big Bay to live full time in the North where he fully enjoyed his time on his Boston Whaler in Georgian Bay. Jim loved to get together with his Big Bay friends where he snowshoed, enjoyed coffee and conversation with the gang and volunteered at Keppel Croft Gardens. I re-call his son-in-law saying that he “Had the Life”.

Jim was the kind of man who would always be there to help, always thinking of others, a gentle, thoughtful, and compassionate man. I will never forget all the things he did to make my life easier for the future when he knew he would no longer be here.  He fought so very hard to hang onto life, a life cut too short.

If you can do one thing for him, do what’s right and do what’s good. Be kind and help others because the world can always use one more kind person.

I know you are singing all those Neil Young songs in Heaven and if you listen close you might even be able to hear him singing and if you do, sing along. Our memories of him are forever imprinted in our hearts.

Until we meet again, your wife Margaret, and family.
