A special thank you to the staff of Mississauga Trillium Hospital, in particular Dr. Chopra and Dr. Singh of the Palliative Unit and the staff of the Orthopedic Unit. Thank you to Ms. Asma Qureshi, who stayed with John during the last four nights leading up to his final journey. Gratitude and appreciation to Tracy Da Costa (Sunrise of Mississauga) and her team, in particular to Iris who was John’s primary caregiver for the four years he resided in the retirement home. Also, a thank you to the team at Indus Community Services where John attended the day program.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, John led a storied life. He worked in the desert of Saudi Arabia (as a radio operator), then married his wife Maria (Anita) and moved to Munich, Germany, where his daughter was born. He worked at Siemens in Munich and then immigrated to Canada in the mid-60s where his son was born. Subsequent to his retirement from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in 1993 (after 33 years of dedicated service) John enjoyed a life of leisure which consisted of gardening, playing pickle ball, enjoying music, dancing and reading. John’s unfortunate onset of dementia, which began in 2011, did not change his demeanor, disposition or passion for life. John was a true Gentleman in every aspect of the word.
