JOHNSON, Walter Leslie

JOHNSON, Walter Leslie

JOHNSON, Walter Leslie Aged 91 years, of Ancaster went to be with his Lord, Sunday, October 21, 2018.

Beloved husband and friend to Mildred for 70 years, Walter was a hardworking man of strong Faith who provided a fine example of love, devotion, kindness and humour for his children, Debbie of Hamilton, Norman of Antigonish, David (Rebeca) and Philip (Sylvia) of Calgary, Dale (Dale) of Chicago, Glenn (Laura) of Brantford, Denise (Ray) of Brockville, 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grand- children and two great-great-grand- children, special sister-in-law Sheila (Don) and his nieces and nephews. Walter is predeceased by his sons Paul and Daniel, his daughter-in-law Shirley (Norman) and grandson Mathew.

Walter’s first love was his family who equally loved him back; a very kind man of quick wit and silly jokes whose smile will be missed by all who knew him. Walter was very interested in architecture and carpentry and at the young age of 20 started his first of many home building projects by adding a third floor to his future father-in-law’s home. He pursued a career as a sheet metal mechanic, first working at his own heating business and then at Procter & Gamble in Hamilton for 25 years.

Walter enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, history, reading, bird carving and aviation. In his last years Walter’s experience with Alzheimer’s taught all who knew him more about this disease, although our hearts were broken watching his decline. While some interests and capabilities fell away during this time, Walter’s strength of character and steadfast love and kindness (fortunately) remained the same.

Thank you to the staff at The Meadows, Ancaster for their empathy, care and support during his last two years.

Family and Friends are welcome to come and celebrate Walters’ life at Bay Gardens Funeral Home , 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton on Sunday, October 28th where a visitation will take place from noon-1 p.m., a service at 1 p.m. followed by a reception from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
