Joyce Ruby (Donovan) GILCHRIST

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Ruby Gilchrist (nee Donovan) on February 27, 2021 in her 80th year, surrounded by the love of her daughter in North Bay.

Joyce is survived by her son Marvin (Brenda) of Smithville, and her daughter Michelle (Jerry) of North Bay and grandchildren James, Maren and Brynn. Joyce is predeceased by her parents Edgar and Dorothy Donovan, brother Richard, sister Patricia, husband Marvin, aka Sam, and her son Mark (Aileen).

Born July 19, 1941, in Ancaster, she grew up on Southcote Rd. Joyce eventually met and married Sam Gilchrist in 1962 and moved to Caledonia. Joyce loved to dance and square dance and enjoyed crocheting. In her hectic years of raising children and working, Joyce went back to school to learn computers and floral design, opening up her own flower shop, Joymar Flowers, for a time. She then moved to North Bay to be closer to her loving daughter, brother and sister. As per her wishes, there will be no service.

Cremation will take place and interment at Caledonia Cemetery will occur at a later date where she will be laid to rest with her beloved Sam. If roses grow in heaven, Goddess, please pick a bunch for me, Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for awhile. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.
