Maria Rosa Resende DaSILVA

DaSILVA, Maria Rosa Resende On January 8, 2021, Maria Rosa passed away at home surrounded by her family. As the matriarch to a large family, she will be remembered for her breadth of wisdom, warmth of heart, and sharp sense of humour. Beloved wife for 70 years to Francisco V. DaSilva (predeceased), and the loving mother of Maria de Lourdes, Anita, Paul and Filomena Marie. Grandmother of Raoul, Christina, Gabriella, Sara, Nicholas, Alyssa, Matteo (deceased), Sophia, Francesca, Christian, and Madelyn.

As well as great-grandmother to Justin and Olivia. Maria Rosa was born on June 28,1930 in the quaint town of Cacia near the city of Aveiro in Portugal. A humble immigrant who arrived in 1953 with her young daughter, Lourdes, she and her husband Frank tenaciously carved out a living in Canada. They opened up one of the first Portuguese bakeries in Toronto – Lisbon Bakery in the 1950s. Together, she and Frank grew their family to the strength it is today. Maria Rosa enjoyed interacting with the Portuguese Community and will be sadly missed by not only her family but all those that knew her. Maria Rosa’s garden was her therapy and she enjoyed being surrounded by greenery and life. She loved traveling and loved to speak with everyone. She visited her home country many times.

Losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, her caring and her wisdom live on – like a legacy of love that will always be with you. May that love surround you now and bring you peace.” – Author unknown
