Mary Margaret (née Langford) DERMODY (née Langford)

DERMODY, Mary Margaret (née Langford) Peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Macassa Lodge, our beautiful mother finally escaped the Alzheimer’s Disease, with which she has lived over the past 8 years. She will be reunited with our father, William P. (Bill) Dermody.

Loving mother of Bill (Judy), Paul (Doris), Maureen, and John. Loved Nana of Erin, Andrea (Patrick Gordon), Clare (Jay Duncan), Paul, and Alexandra, and great-grandmother of William, and Vivian Duncan. Dear sister of Joan (the late Ken Lavery), and sister-in-law of Vyvyan and Dr. Russell Reilly. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Margaret and Wilf Langford, her sister Kathryn (the late John Durran), and brother Tom (the late Mary) Langford, as well as her Dermody in-laws, Therese and Tom Peckham, and Felicitas and Hugh Hockton, and nephew William Hockton. Mary grew up beside her father’s Pharmacy in Waterdown, one of the sites she loved to drive by on the many car rides to Waterdown in recent years. Mary was instrumental in her sons re-establishing the family Funeral Homes, working tirelessly in any capacity to ensure success for her sons. Mary loved spending winter months in Florida with Bill prior to his death, and in later years enjoyed travelling to other parts of the world with her son Bill and his family.

As difficult as it was to witness our mother’s decline into her illness, our mom was helped along the way by her three earthly angels; Shirley Johnson, Denise Laurin, and Bev Shaver, as well as, the staff of C1W and C2W at Macassa Lodge. Thank you for the love and many kindnesses you showed to our precious mother. Visitation at her family’s funeral home, P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 7 East Ave. S., on Monday, July 30 from 6-9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 31 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil at 2 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Regina Mundi Catholic Church, Mohawk Rd. West at Upper Paradise, on Wednesday, August 1 at 11 a.m. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial donations to either the Alzheimer Society, or DeMazenod Door at St. Patrick’s Church would be appreciated by the family. Our mother had a kind, gentle, loving spirit and she bore her disease with a quiet strength, dignity and grace. As mom had come to say so often in the last years of her life “Thank you, thank you very much”, we say, “no Mom, Thank You!”

Her memory was not taken by this disease,it was spread out through the people she loved.
