WALLACE, MERVYN ALBERT December 26, 1936 – February 16, 2021 After a lengthy illness, Merv passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. Beloved husband of 48 years to Marion and devoted father to Coreena (Tom Boyle). Proud grandpa to Adam and Eric. Predeceased by his parents William and Myrtle (Heller) and his brother Ronald (Edith). Mervyn will be lovingly remembered by his extended family in-laws; Eddy (the late Rose Baldacchino); Carl and Brigitte Pridmore.
Beloved uncle to Craig Wallace, Bruce Wallace (Cheryl) the late Evan Wallace, Frank Baldacchino, Marion Marrone (Marco) Jeffrey Pridmore, Colin Pridmore (Stephanie Maiato). Great-uncle to Miranda Varricchio (Laura), Cadence Ashton (Bill); Raelyn Wallace, Bonnie Wallace and Jonathan Marrone (Charlotte Searle). Merv leaves behind close lifelong family friends Danny and Sandra Wallace, Patricia Collins, Angela Hickey and Velma Brown. Honored (special) uncle of Eric Wallace and Lisa Buchanan and their families. Merv has been reunited with lifelong friends the late Gary Collins; the late Robert Hickey and the late David Brown.
Merv was born and raised in East York and attended Chester Public School and East York Collegiate High School. He was the General Manager of Canadian Transport Tariff Bureau Association from 1950 – 1980, a family-owned business. In later years he joined close friend Dan Wallace in his business ventures from 1981 until Merv’s retirement in 2001. Merv had many hobbies including playing Badminton and Tennis; collecting stamps, raising Tropical Fish and weight lifting. In 1968, Merv embarked on his biggest hobby when he purchased his cottage in the Muskoka’s on Go Home Lake. This was an ever-ending project and he took pride in everything he did to look after his cottage.
Merv had a love for water and boating and spent every weekend from April to October at GHL. He was a member of the Go Home Lake Cottage Owners Association and the Boating Ontario Association from 1968 – 1999 when he was forced to sell the cottage for health reasons. In his later years Merv enjoyed puttering around his house on Argonne Street in North York, spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying his weekly outings to the Casino.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral will be held on Saturday, February 20th at 2 p.m. The service will be livestreamed and available to be viewed post-service also.
