Murdina PAAVILA

PAAVILA, Murdina (nee McKAY) With sadness we announce the passing of Murdina on September 22, 2018, weeks before her 99th birthday.

Predeceased by David, beloved husband of 57 years, survived by loving children Ellen (Stuart Scantlebury), Jim (Louise Steiner) and Karen (Jaro Pristupa), grandsons Grayson Scantlebury (Julie) and Stephen Pristupa, nieces and nephews.

Born Aberdeen, Scotland, October 8, 1919, she immigrated to Canada as an infant. As a young woman in small town Espanola, ON, she fought for improved work conditions and equal pay for women, achieving some success in her local banking and pulp and paper offices. There she met and married the love of her life David, raising their 3 children.

Big changes came in 1968 when David’s job took the family to suburban Pointe Claire, QC. In 1989, Murdina and David retired to Delta, BC. Murdina enjoyed regular correspondence with friends and family, including many in Scotland she and David met on visits there.

Fiercely independent, she lived in her own home till age 98. With a lifelong love of music, she enjoyed playing piano even in her last year in assisted living.

A private ceremony has taken place.
