ATLIJA, Nikola It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Nikola Atlija, peacefully with his family at his side, on August 24, 2018 at the age of 89.

Nikola leaves behind his loving and devoted family; wife Manda (nee Visekruna), daughter Zora, son Nick, son George and daughter-in-law Petra, grandchildren Mark and Luke, sisters Zorka and Jeka, and niece Milica. He will be sadly missed by family and friends in Canada, USA, Serbia and Switzerland. Nikola was born in Selo Oton Brdo, Dalmacija. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, joining the Serbian Chetnik Movement at the young age of 16. After the war he found his way to England where he worked and completed his trades education. He immigrated to Canada in 1956 to begin a new life and career. Nikola married his wife Manda in 1958. Together, they lovingly raised three children and shared 59 happy years of marriage. Nikola was a caring family man, who actively supported his church and community. He was a founding member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral on Nash Road in Hamilton, Ontario and the Chetnik War Veterans Association in Winona, Ontario. Nikola was a dedicated employee of Dofasco in Hamilton, Ontario for 35 years.

Family and friends will be received at DONALD V. BROWN FUNERAL HOME , 36 Lake Ave. Dr., Stoney Creek, Ontario on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. Pomen at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 149 Nash Rd. S., Hamilton, Ontario on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. with the Very Reverend Father Djuro Samac officiating. Interment to follow at Mountview Gardens Cemetery in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
