Rauno Kalevi AUTIO

AUTIO, Rauno Kalevi July 16, 1931 – February 24, 2018 Rauno Kalevi Autio passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Sunset Manor, Collingwood, with his children by his side. Born in Finland in 1931, Rauno came to Canada with his parents and brother in 1948. He worked in lumber camps and mines in Northern Ontario before joining the Carpenter’s Union in 1953. He specialized in commercial construction and office interiors.

Rauno met Elna Lempi Maria Knuuttila at the Finnish Social Club. They were married in 1957 in Toronto. Together, they raised four children: Helen (Stephen), Risto (Jeanette), Lisa (Paul) and Steven (Ellie). He was the proud grandfather of Isabella, Julia and Liam. The Autio family enjoyed many happy summers at the cottage at Christie Beach on the shore of Georgian Bay. After Elna passed in 2002, he left Toronto to retire in Collingwood at Lighthouse Point. However, at age 74, he had one more very important project; he built a home across from the old family cottage with his son Risto.

Rauno enjoyed a simple, peaceful life. Up at dawn, he loved to walk every day. He loved spending time with family and was always ready for a game of rummy 500 and coffee. In 2016, Rauno moved to Sunset Manor, where he made many friends and continued his daily walks. We thank all who cared for and supported our father at Sunset Manor.

He will be profoundly missed and will now be reunited with his loving wife Elna. Friends will be received at Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church, 25 Old York Mills Rd., North York, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
