Salvatrice MONCADA

Salvatrice MONCADA

MONCADA, Salvatrice It is with sadness that the family of Salvatrice Moncada (nee DeLuca) announce her passing on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Salvatrice (Turina) was born on May 8, 1930 in Pachino, Sicily, a place she always cherished as a special part of her roots and family history.

She is remembered as a loving and caring sister to Giuseppe (spouse, Carmela; daughters Sylvia, Patricia and Lorella), Francesco (spouse, Maria-Teresa; daughters Anna, Josie and Carmela) and Maria (spouse, Carmelo Lentinello; daughters Lucia and Ivana). Turina was predeceased by her beloved husband Salvatore. They were wed in Pachino in 1948 and later followed their hopes and dreams to Canada – he in 1951 and she in 1952 – where they built a home in Toronto among cherished friends and family. In time, they welcomed a baby girl into their hearts. When they adopted Maria, they were finally able to form the family Turina had long dreamed of.

Turina later moved to Oakville, Ontario where she lived with her daughter Maria, son-in-law Joseph DiDanieli and granddaughters Julia and Emily. There, she was able to enjoy being a devoted grandmother while being surrounded by family in the winter of her life. Turina will live on in our hearts and minds and the lessons she taught us about family will remain her greatest legacy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Highland Funeral Home – Markham Chapel, 10 Cachet Woods Crt., Markham and the Funeral Mass on Friday, August 17th at 11 a.m. at St. Aidan Roman Catholic Church, 3501 Finch Ave. E., Scarborough. Entombment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 33 Memory Lane, Willowdale. Donations made in memory of Turina to the Alzheimer Society of the Halton Region or to the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
