SEVIA ELINOR GIBSON

SEVIA ELINOR GIBSON

GIBSON, SEVIA ELINOR (nee TOMLIN) August 15, 1926 – April 9, 2018 Sevia (Sevy or Sev) passed away peacefully at home after a short illness this past Monday having spent Easter and her last weekend with the people that loved her so much: her daughter Kim (Gunnar), sons Bill and Craig, her granddaughters Casey (Kevin) and Quinn and her great-grandson Brody.

Sevia was predeceased by her husband William (2016) and her beautiful daughter Brooke (2007) as well as her siblings Audrey, Charles, Shirley, Margaret and Gertrude. Mom could light up a room with her radiant smile and a kind word. She loved the simple things in life and always maintained that her happiest years were those spent at her McKee home raising her family and the summers she spent at her family cottage at Lake Scugog. Her children never for a moment doubted her love for them.

She bowled in two 5-pin leagues at Newtonbrook Bowl for over 40 years, was a dedicated volunteer at Cummer house for many years and was a devoted Toronto Star reader. We will cherish all the lovely afghans she knitted and loved to share with family and friends. Although not into fancy gardening, she loved to be out keeping her lawn cut, trimmed and raked.

As a child of the depression and the Second World War, Mum was recycling before it became trendy. She hated waste. She was also a proud Canadian who always remembered our troops at Remembrance Day and a devoted sports fan who cheered for the Leafs and Blue Jays.

Her cat Maggie will miss their afternoon naps together. Thanks so much to the personal support workers who helped make Mom’s last months at home possible.

Visitation will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St., (at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Sunday, April 15th from 12 pm until time of service at 1 p.m. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Monday, April 16th at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences may be left at www.rskane.ca
