SISTER DOROTHY DWYER

(formerly Sister M. Dorothy) Died peacefully at Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario on Friday, November 9, 2018 in the 61st year of her religious life.

She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Alma Dwyer, her sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) and her brothers James, John and Donald.  Sister Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law Don, his three children and many nieces and nephews.

After working a number of years, Sister Dorothy entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto as a graduate of St. Michael’s Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1948).

She lived the motto of St. Michael’s, “Whatsoever you do to the least among you, you do to me.” Matthew 25.

Sister Dorothy was a gifted nurse always ready to serve the patient as the “dear neighbour.” She used her administrative and management skills wherever they were needed: Emergency Care, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Discharge Planning.

Following further studies in Pastoral Care, Sister Dorothy ministered to people in parishes in Toronto, ON and Chilliwack, BC.

Recently, Sister Dorothy resided at St. Joseph’s Care Centre. As her health declined she prayed for the needs of the poor and the homeless in our city.

Visitation will take place at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, ON, on Monday, November 12, 2018, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
