SONSMANN, Hans

SONSMANN, HansĀ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Hans Sonsmann.

Hans passed away suddenly at Hamilton General Hospital on Monday, April 8, 2019 in his 85th year. He is survived by his best friend and cherished wife of 53 years, Traudl. Predeceased by his beloved eldest son, Christopher (July, 1997). Loving father to Michael and to Pamela Fischer and loving father-in-law to Arden. A very precious Opa to his grandchildren, Veronica and David Fischer. Hans is also survived by his older brother Gerd Sonsmann and his family in Hamburg, Germany. He will be fondly remembered by extended family and many friends.

Hans immigrated to Canada from Hamburg, Germany in 1958 and worked as a pipe fitter at Stelco for 35 years, from 1959 to his retirement in 1994. Hans enjoyed working around the home, fixing and building things. He enjoyed reading, walking, golfing, vacationing in sunny Cuba and, more recently, watching movies and programs from his German homeland. He will be remembered for his kind and warm ways, joyful smile and love of life.

Our many thanks and appreciation is extended to the doctors and nurses of the Cardiac Care team at Hamilton General Hospital for their expert care.

Visitation will take place at the Bay Gardens Funeral Home (1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington) on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (104 Hughson St. N., Hamilton) on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow the service. For those who wish, memorial donations to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
