SPEARS, Jane Ross Howell Born in Hamilton, November 5, 1922 to the late Dr. James and Mrs. Emma Simpson. Jane passed away courageously at home with the love and support of her family on Sunday, February 24, 2019.

Jane had a glorious 96 years where she combined teaching, sporting activities and volunteer endeavours. But the most joyous and rewarding aspect of her life was that of raising her family.

Predeceased by her loving husband John, Jane will be sadly missed by her five sons: John (Dove), James (Judy), David (Lisa), Ronald and Timothy (Sandra). Jane was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Caitlyn, Connor, Emma, Taylor, Alexandra, Zachary, Amanda, Jonathan and Catherine and five great-grandchildren: Leah, Julia, Olivia, Cameron and Grace.

Jane was educated at Strathallan, Branksome Hall, and McMaster University. Among her lifetime passions she was active in many sports including skating, tennis, golf and playing bridge. She also loved watching sports on television and was a true Ti-Cat fan. Jane volunteered in the Junior League, Art Gallery, Altar Guild at Christ’s Church Cathedral and she maintained an active membership at both the Hamilton Golf and Country Club and the Thistle Club.

Special thanks to the Niagara Caregivers and to Bayshore Caregivers. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Shelley who provided exceptional and loving care to our Mother during her last months.

“To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord”, although Jane was reluctant to leave her family, she was very excited about her next stage of living.
