THOMPSON, John Charles It is with great sadness that we announce John’s sudden passing on January 14th, in his 94th year.

He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Marnie (nee Wilson). John was born in Toronto to George and Alice Thompson (nee Larlham).

John attended Earl Haig High School where he met his only love of his life, Marnie. He completed Officers Training during the war and then went on to study Engineering at the University of Toronto. John was an engineer with his only employer, Canadian International Paper where he enjoyed many promotions and stations in cities across Quebec and Ontario.

John and Marnie enjoyed a wonderful retirement full of travelling to Europe, golfing and socializing at the Burlington Golf and Country Club and spending many winters in Hilton Head with their many close friends.

John will be remembered lovingly by his son John (Arlene) and daughter Diane Arrell (Harrison) grandchildren Melissa (Ben), Jason (Heather), Heather (Peter), Michael, Andrew, and great-grandchildren Sebastian, Adrianna, Edie, Chiara, Louis, Rachel, Mike and Marianna, William and Robert.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at La Salle Retirement Community for the exceptional care and support that enhanced John’s quality of life.

Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home , 1010 Botanical Drive, BURLINGTON (905.527.0405) on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at the Funeral Home on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial donations made to the Alzheimer Association of Canada or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
