Veronica TYRRELL

TYRRELL, Veronica 1937 – 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce Veronica Tyrrell’s passing on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the age of 81. Veronica will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Lloyd Tyrrell, her daughter Allison, her son Andrew, his wife Ann Marie and their children Andrew Jr. and Brandon. Veronica was an extraordinary community leader who was beloved by her many friends and colleagues. Her relentless dedication to helping people was always her passion.

Born in Guyana she relocated to the UK after accepting a scholarship. Veronica graduated as a Registered Nurse specializing in Midwifery. Later, she and Lloyd immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1984 the family relocated to Ontario where she became instrumental in pioneering Midwifery as a recognized profession. Veronica supported many local community and political organizations and had a way of bringing people together. She used her involvement in the community and politics as a way to bring people together to push for inclusivity, tolerance, social change and working towards the greater good. As a community leader she received many accolades and awards but bringing Black History to Oakville and receiving her Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal were her proudest moments. Her spirit energy and unwavering service to the causes she believed in was infinite. She was unselfishly devoted to her family and friends and a consummate leader to the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton which she built into what it now is today. A day did not pass without Veronica going the extra mile to do whatever she could to promote diversity and inclusion; to help make Halton Region the best place to live – for everyone. Veronica Tyrrell will be greatly missed.

The family would like to invite friends and family to visit the Glen Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville on Friday, October 12, 2018 from (2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m.).
