Alois (Al) DUERHAMMER

February 26, 1924 – August 7, 2016

We sadly announce the passing of our beloved Al (aka “Vati”), a kind, loving, accommodating and tremendously giving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and cherished friend. Al shall be greatly missed by his family and close friends for his dry sense of humour “Ah, shut up!”, “who cares?!” and his unwavering love of his granddaughter Kristen, the primary sparkle of his life as the photo from 2014 vacation that he chose confirms. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Anne, who took care of his every need and made sure others did too. Also left behind is his son Harold whose devotion, loyalty and attention knew no bounds. Harold and Al were blessed in that they had an extremely close relationship, enjoying numerous trips to exotic destinations, sparing no expense and enjoying one another’s company. The silver lining is that Al, Anne, Harold and Kristen never took one another for granted. They spent time together, almost daily. Vati and Kristen also spent unlimited time together in younger years practicing math, playing on the computer and just hanging out, all of which undoubtedly contributed to the fine young lady Kristen is today. Al also leaves behind close family friends Zach, John, compassionate daughter-in-law Summer, wonderful neighbours Barry and Barb. Al also leaves extended family members in Austria and Ontario.

Al loved life to the fullest and made us promise to do the same. Live every moment, enjoy life, eat well and, of course, drink the best!

Cremation with no visitation or service was the expressed wish of Al.

“Oh shut up!!”
