ANNECAREY

ANNE CAREY Anne Carey passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Loving wife of Brian T. O’Connor and adoring mother of Elizabeth Carey O’Connor. Anne was a Journalist at the Ottawa Citizen, CTV and the Toronto Star, where she worked for more than 35 years as a Reporter and Copy Editor. She was known for her commitment to social justice and the community. In the words of a friend, “Anne has never ever let me down. Always there for me. Always giving, supportive, wise and caring… so articulate with both the written and spoken word.” Anne enjoyed hosting dinner parties, discussing politics, going to the theatre and vacationing in Prince Edward County. She will be remembered as entertaining, engaging, thoughtful and curious. Even close to the end, she had a wonderful way of making people laugh. Anne had various forms of cancer for almost 20 years. Considered a medical miracle by many who treated her, most of the time she hardly seemed ill. She had great admiration and affection for the health care providers at Princess Margaret Hospital who supported her on her journey. “I love you” were the words that got her through the last 18 months. Anne deeply understood that she could not add days to her life, but could add life to her days. Sincere thanks to those who visited with her this summer. A celebration of life will be held at The Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, 106 Trinity Street, Toronto, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7th. Donations may be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or Reporters Without Borders.
