ANN EVELYN ORR

(nee CAMERON)

Ann died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 88 from pancreatic cancer. Born February 20, 1928, Ann is survived by her children Stacy Sprague (John Sprague, deceased), Alex Orr and John Orr (Lisa) and her grandchildren, Cameron Sprague, and Jack, Jane and Blake Orr. She is also lovingly remembered by the Baker, Card, Coulston, Eastmure, Hutchins, Orr, Pringle and Swanson families, her extended family, as well as her many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents John Duncan and Marion (nee Pringle) Cameron; her brothers Clive and Angus; her sisters Patricia and Molly; her ex-husband Alfred Orr and her son-in-law John Sprague.

Ann was born in Toronto and attended Havergal College and Forest Hill Collegiate. Following high school, she attended finishing school in London, England. She returned to Toronto to begin a career in advertising and to start her family, and then returned to work and had a long career in television (CBC Marketplace) and communications (CNIB). Throughout she was a dedicated volunteer and advocate, giving her time to the AGO, Dixon Hall and, most tirelessly, to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Ann was a renaissance woman who loved to read, listen to music, enjoy the outdoors and take pictures. She was an avid reader with a special knack for suggesting just the right book for others to enjoy and was always current on world events and politics. Ann was passionate about the arts and spent many Sunday afternoons enjoying Jazz Vespers. She loved the outdoors and could often be found in a canoe or a sailboat by the lake in the summer or flying down the slopes at her beloved ski club Osler Bluff. Ann was also a skilled photographer who had a gift for capturing the moment.

Most of all Ann was passionate about her family and her friends. She was a loving, dedicated and supportive mother who always said I love you. She was a proud and doting granny to her four grandchildren and shared with them her passion for life. She was also cherished Auntie Ann to her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces. Ann went out of her way to help others. She was an incredible friend and neighbour who had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome and special. There was always room in her heart.

The joy and grace with which Ann lived her life was truly inspirational. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME – A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017. A funeral service will be held in ROSEDALE UNITED CHURCH, 159 Roxborough Drive, Toronto on Friday, January 27 at 2 o’clock.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to CAMH in her memory (www.camh.ca).
