GAY, Barbara Ann (nee McCagg) —

Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle at Toronto General Hospital on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the age of 86 (or as she would tell us, 29 and some months). Beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob) Gay. Loving mother of Bob (Sandra), Stephen (Kelly), Richard (Susan) and William. Cherished grandmother of Robert and Rachel. Barb will be remembered with love by her sisters Wilma and Laurie (Richard) and the families of her other siblings; Ron (Maureen), Sheila (Hart) and Diane who predeceased her. Barb was born in Ottawa, where she completed her university education at Carleton in 1952. She married Bob in 1956 and together they had four fine sons. The family moved to Toronto and then Whitby. Barb was a very strong person; after Bob’s death in 1984, she raised the boys and became a high school teacher in Durham region, where she taught until her retirement. Barb was an active member of her community until her death and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Toronto General Hospital for their care and support during the past several weeks. Friends will be received at the W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street, East, Whitby, on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service to be celebrated in the chapel on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Barb to the University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital) or a charity of your own choice would be appreciated.
