Carmel T HOLLE
HOLLE, Carmel T. June 17, 1935 – October 2, 2016 It is with profound and crushing sadness, that the HOLLE Family announces the passing of our beloved Matriarch, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Teacher, Artist, Volunteer, Compassionate helper to the less fortunate, in her 81st year. Carmel was predeceased by her parents, Norman John Matheson and Carmel (Sr.) Matheson nee O’Rielly, as well as her siblings, Therese Galvin (nee Matheson) and Robert Matheson of Hamilton. She is survived by her husband James and her two loving sons, Mark of Mississauga, Grant and his wife Karen and their three children, Zachary, Jacob, and Katie all of Grimsby. Carmel graduated from Loretta Academy (Hamilton) having been awarded the Governor General’s medal for the highest marks in English Literature in her final year. She subsequently graduated from Hamilton Teachers College and went on to successfully complete her Primary Methods Teaching Certificate. She taught at St. Eugene’s, Hamilton; St. Joseph’s, St. Catharines; St. Joseph’s, Grimsby as well as St. Paul’s in Beaconsfield, Quebec. After the family was transferred back to Ontario, Carmel embarked on a multi decade long career of helping others. In order to better prepare herself to be an effective volunteer at Joseph Brant Hospital, Carmel successfully completed the following courses: Palliative Care, Lay Visitation of the Sick, Assertiveness Training and Transactional Analysis. Having served a total of almost 5500 volunteer hours at Joseph Brant Hospital she was awarded a ten year pin and a Lifetime Membership in the Auxiliary. Carmel went on to serve in the Special Needs Swim Program at the Aldershot Pool, as well as teaching individuals English after completing the requirements for Senior Literacy Tutor with the National Affiliation for Literacy Advancement. Unfortunately, Carmel was not blessed with good health which may well have contributed to her commitment to helping others. As per Carmel’s wishes, cremation and a private service took place October 5, 2016. She will be very sadly missed by family and friends. Her final wish was that “When you think of me, do something nice for someone else in my memory.” (Arrangements entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME , BURLINGTON 905-632-3333.)
