Carole(Henderson) CARPENTER

CARPENTER, Carole (Henderson) July 19, 1944 – October 18, 2017 Carole’s family is sad to announce her passing at Sheridan Villa. Carole was born in Vancouver, earned a B.Sc. in Psychology at Dalhousie University and a Ph.D. in Folklore-Folklife at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty of York University in 1971, where she designed a new degree program in Children’s Studies, became full Professor, and taught until her retirement. Carole published seven books, including Many Voices: A Study of Folklore Activities in Canada and Their Role in Canadian Culture (National Museums of Canada) and an internationally published children’s book, Sandy’s Incredible Shrinking Footprint, as well as numerous articles. Among her many administrative positions, Carole was Master of York University’s Vanier College and a member of the Executive Board of the American Folklore Society. Carole is survived by her children Geoffrey John (Katie Tight) and Carolyn “Minnie” (Matt Renzetti); her grandchildren, Lara, Jackson and Scarlett; and her ex-husband, Ken. Carole will always be lovingly remembered for her great intelligence, her amazingly high energy level and her unremitting devotion to her children. Visitation is Monday, October 23rd, from 5-8 p.m. at Morley Bedford Funeral Services, 159 Eglinton Ave. West. Carole has requested donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers.
