Caroline TERPSTRA
TERPSTRA, Caroline (nee Schoonberg) September 9, 1919 – May 25, 2017 With great sadness the family announces the passing of Caroline Terpstra at St. Peter’s Hospital in her 98th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 46 years Sjoerd Terpstra, her parents Henderik and Elisabeth (deGroot) Schoonberg and her 7 brothers. Loving Mother of Vicky (Roland) Haslhofer, Ina (Gaetano deceased 2015) Rispoli, Carrie (Bruce) Brooker. Nana to John (Maureen), Paul, Glen (Annette), Angelina (Marcel), Andrea (Tom), Guy (Kathy). Special Great-Nana to Marcel, Marten, Ella, Evan, Gaetano, Matteo and Isabella. Caroline was born in Amsterdam and immigrated to Canada with her husband Sjoerd and their 3 young daughters in 1954. This difficult move away from family and friends reflects the strength and courage that defined her life. As a mother and widow her independent spirit was an inspiration to her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legendary sense of style and creative craft projects from clowns to quilts will be treasured. Until her late 80’s she travelled throughout Europe from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean with her best friend Rie van Willigenburg (deceased). She spent many happy years at St. Elizabeth Village with her partner Bartele Kleefstra (deceased) actively involved in the card club and dances. Honouring Caroline’s wishes cremation has taken place to be followed by a private family interment. The family thanks the staff of St. Elizabeth Villa, Dr. Derek Coull, the VON Palliative Care Team and the staff of 3 West at St. Peter’s Hospital for their exceptional and compassionate care of our Mom. If so desired donations to the War Amps would honour Caroline’s memory.
