CIURO, Sofia September 4, 1927 – July 21, 2016 Surrounded by the love of her family, Sofia passed away peacefully at the Juravinski Hospital on July 21, 2016 at the age of 88. Reunited with her beloved husband Antonio (2014), just one day shy of their 66 anniversary. Cherished mother of Rose (Bob) Desjardins, Nancy (Ken) Hedderson, Silvana (Ken) Dunlop, Santi Ciuro (George Antonopoulos). Dear Nonna to Sofia (Randy), Dino (Elizabeth), Sabrina (Shawn), Philip (Alison). Great-grandmother to Nicholas, Amanda, Joshua, Scott, Emily, Mathew, Jackson Anthony, and Cristiano. Survived by her sister Josephine (Santo) Ciuro and her brothers Pino (Maria) Gristina and Filippo (Gina) Gristina. Predeceased by her parents Luigi and Nunzia Gristina. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Sofia will be remembered as the kind hearted matriarch of the family who enjoyed knitting, gardening and baking. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family. Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home – “William J. Markey Chapel” , 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton (905.574.0405) on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 1694 Upper James Street, Hamilton on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington.
