WHALEY, Cyril James Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the age of 91. Born November 14, 1925 in Manchester, England to Frank and Hilda Whaley. Predeceased also by his beloved wife of 62 years, Maureen (nee Keogh). Also predeceased by younger brother Geoffrey and elder sister Veronica (Vee), and her husband Edward (Eddy) Peters. Survived by daughters Janet (Pierre) and Sheila, as well as his beloved grand-dog Molly. Also survived by extensive family in England, including members of the Peters and Keogh families, as well as the Austin family of Hamilton, Ontario. Cyril immigrated to Canada with Maureen and Janet in 1957, and first settled in Hamilton before buying their only house in Burlington, where they moved with Sheila in 1967. He continued to live independently at home until a week before his death. He also leaves behind an extended family of neighbours including Nick and Wendy Bunda, and their daughters Meagan and Kylie, and Glenn and Sue Runciman and family. Cyril spent most of his working career in restaurant management at the Burlington Mall and Mississauga Square One. He became a school crossing guard at the age of 75, and remained dedicated to his duties at Pinedale and Mullin Way in east Burlington, ushering a generation of children safely to school and home, only retiring a couple of months before his death. He was well-loved in his community. A Manchester City Football fan since the age of six, he will wear both his team jersey and cap as he leaves the field. A service celebrating his life will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, Burlington (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception. Ladies are invited to wear hats – and gentlemen too – if they wish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA, or The War Amps. Night God Bless.
