D. Robert “Bob” HARKNESS
HARKNESS, D. Robert “Bob” Bob Harkness, in his 85th year passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017. Beloved husband for 61 years to Joan (nee Elvins) and father to Andrew (Karen) and Ian (Shirley and daughter Jenna). Grandfather to Tyler (Alex), Laura, and Jocelyn and great-grandfather to Hudson and Levi. Bob was retired many years from the Board of Education and spent his retirement dedicated to work supporting Wesley Urban Ministries, getting in a game of tennis, and traveling the world with Joan. His talent for organizing and making lists was used to guide many programs at Wesley, including the Christmas Store. He was a long time member of Barton Stone United Church where he was well known for committee work and leading the singing of the ’12 days of Christmas’ each year at the Christmas party with enthusiasm that was enjoyed by all. A celebration of life will be held at Barton Stone United Church, 21 Stone Church Road West (at Upper James), Hamilton on Saturday, April 8th at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow. For those who wish, there will be an opportunity to share a short story or memory during the service. Donations can be made in memory of Bob to Wesley Urban Ministries through the funeral home.
