GETZ, David Alexander —
Died peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 after an intense three month battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Maria Mironowicz, adored father of Kristina and father-in-law to Fabrizzio and cherished grandfather to Zoe. Survived by his loving brothers Orville (Nancy) and Ron (Barb) and their children Molly, Margot and Michael and grandchildren. Dear brother-in-law to Margaret and Marta (Christer) and uncle to Hannah, Anna and Kristina. Dave was born in Killaloe, Ontario in 1946 to the late Lawrence and Dorian Getz (nee Burke). He was a respected journalist and writer, spending many years at CBC Radio News in Ottawa and Toronto, followed by a challenging career in media relations at the Bank of Montreal. In the mid 1990s he established his own communications company and then returned to journalism at the CBC before his retirement in 2013. Above all, Dave loved his family, life at the cottage, and having a pint with his many friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking incredible meals, walking the family’s golden retrievers and growing his vegetable garden at the cottage. His bravery, kindness, dignity, sense of humour, gentleness, strength and grace are already so deeply missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at 2 p.m., at the Church of the Ascension, 36 Mill Street, Killaloe, Ontario followed by a celebration of Dave’s life at the Royal Canadian Legion 406, 250 John Street, Barry’s Bay, Ontario from 3-5 p.m.
