DEANS. ROSS

DEAN S. ROSS 1924 – 2016 Dean S. Ross, aged 91 years, died peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Village by the Arboretum, Guelph. Dean was born August 31, 1924, the son of Dr. James and Gladys (Sewell) Ross. On September 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Patricia J. McConnell who survives him. They were blessed with four children: Campbell (Lyn) Ross of Grafton, WI, Sally (John) Vingoe of Rockwood, Peter (Barbara) Ross of Mississauga and Elizabeth (Greg) Walsh of Oshawa. He was further blessed with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Gladys and his brothers John and Colin Ross and Johnny Orr and by a sister Elizabeth and brother James, who died in infancy. After a long career as a Mechanical Engineer, Dean with Pat retired to a rural home near Port Hope where they lived until recently. In retirement, Dean was an avid golfer and curler and enjoyed designing and building small mechanical devices such as weather vanes and wind chimes. Together with Pat, he enjoyed many ocean voyages to distant places. Dean had a keen interest in his community, current affairs and the environment and was an inveterate “letter to the editor” writer who loved a good discussion. We would like to thank the staff at Arbour Trails for the wonderful care he received in his last days and also to the CCAC for their support. Family and friends are invited to the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, where a memorial service to commemorate Dean’s life will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 2 p.m. Interment of ashes at a later date in Port Hope. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Cards are available at the funeral home at 519-821-5077.
