Diana FORD

Diana Susan Ford (Dea) passed away on August 9, 2016 whilst a resident in the wonderful palliative care facility known as Ian Anderson House. Diana was predeceased by her brother John Dea, her father Tom and mother Lucy Maud Dea (Milne). Diana leaves surviving her husband John Kelvin Ford (Kelvin), their children and spouses, Katherine Elizabeth Halberg (Chris), Heather Ann Ford (Collin) and David John Alexander Ford (Christina) and her grandchildren Lucy Cerkownyk, Parker Cerkownyk and Lola Halberg. She will be greatly missed by her sister Sandra Birnie (Dea) and her children, Diana’s nephews and spouses, Ben Birnie (Gail), Jamie Birnie (Laura) and Nicholas Birnie (Carla) and the children of all three. Diana (Queen’s Arts ’69) and Kelvin (Queen’s Law ’70) met shortly after graduation. They married in 1972 at St. George’s United Church and built a home in Belfountain where they resided for over 30 years. Their lives were made richer by the many wonderful neighbours and friends they met. Diana was an accomplished teacher at Belfountain Public School and retired from the profession having greatly enhanced the reading skills of so many of the young children she taught. All three children were raised in a warm and loving environment. It was an idyllic life. After the children left home, Diana and Kelvin moved to Bloor West Village and began to plan for their retirement life, moving then to Kingston, a city they had 40 years earlier determined would be their last home together. Visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel at 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 12 to 4 p.m. A Celebration of Life in Diana’s honour will be held on a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Diana may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada, Ian Anderson House or the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Canada.
