DORIS(GROFF) ADYE-WHITE

DORIS ADYE-WHITE (nee GROFF) September 20, 1917 – February 24, 2017 Passed away peacefully on February 24, 2017 in her 99th year at the Mississauga Extendicare. Born in Bridgeport, Ontario to Gilda and Allen Groff, mother of Stewart (ex Sandra) and William (Patricia) and grandmother to Leslie Adye- White, Sharon Adye-White, Scott Trimble, Amanda Rosien and Lauren Adye-White. Great- grandmother to Alexander Trimble, Spencer Trimble, Scott Trimble, Alexandria Schopp, Clare Schopp, Christopher Schopp and Aurora Rosien. She was predeceased by her husband, Stewart Adye-White. Doris was a Potter, Painter and Sculptress. During the war years, she worked part time at Toronto General Hospital on the night shift as a Phone Operator while she went to the Ontario College of Art. As a result of her job she was not permitted to enlist in the war effort. She studied under Emanuel Hahn who thought enough of her talents that he gave her all of the commission work that came in. Some of these included a commission by the Government of England for a broach to be presented to Mrs. Winnie Churchill for the contributions by her husband, Winston Churchill. She also made the two silver dollar sculptures that are in the Silver Dollar Room in Toronto. She taught night classes for years at the OCA in pottery for years. She then went on to teach pottery for the Brampton Arts and Recreation Department for many more years. Upon retiring she took up portrait painting which she loved and continued until age 90. Doris lived life to the fullest and loved all of her family. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. A funeral service will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, on Thursday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
