DOUGLAS PUDSEY

DOUGLAS PUDSEY

PUDSEY, DOUGLAS Douglas George Pudsey (Doug), of Burlington, Ontario, passed away quietly in his sleep the morning of May 31, 2021, at the Joseph Brant Hospital. Doug was 87 years of age and he and his wife Elizabeth (Liz) would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 23, 2021.

Together, they raised four sons – David (Jackie), Bruce (Grace), Stephen (Heather), Kevin (CJ) and lived in Toronto, Brampton, Sept-Iles, QC, before making their home in Burlington for the past 51 years. Doug will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren, (Jennifer, Katharine, Bryan, Alison, Cameron, Jared, James, Zachary, Lucas, William, Damian, Cole and Brea), and his 7 great-grandchildren (Olivia, Brooklyn, Isabelle, Reid, Celeste, Sofia and Hunter).

Born and raised in Toronto, Doug was predeceased by his parents, Frank Fawcett Pudsey and Jean Doyle as well as his older brother Ronald “Uncle Ron” Pudsey (Isabelle) of Scarborough. Doug was a favourite uncle to his nieces, Christine (Jim) and Janet (John) and their families. Those who knew Doug would describe him as a charismatic, uplifting, passionate person who never missed a home game of hockey or an early morning practice. He made sure his passion for the game and etiquette of golf was instilled in his sons and his grandsons, who will no doubt pass that same passion on to their sons in his memory.

Doug spent winters watching golf from home but summers dedicated to the course, either playing or marshalling. With his granddaughters, he humorously entertained the girls with dolls and was even adventurous enough in his 80’s to jump in the bouncy castle with the children. As a staunch and dedicated Liberal, many will miss his tireless efforts in the campaign offices for provincial and federal candidates. His neighbors will miss his cheery hello and chats during his daily walks. Doug’s engaging personality and winning smile guaranteed that he made friends in whatever circle he entered.

Doug’s family understands that he will be missed by many, “for everyone is entitled to their own sorrow – the heart has no metrics or form to measure, and all of it… Irreplaceable”. Due to current restrictions, a private viewing was held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Smith’s Funeral Home on Brant St., Burlington, with plans for a Celebration of Life to take place when restrictions are relaxed later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society in Doug’s name. www.smithsfh.com
