THORNLEY, Dr. James “JIM” Hartley Died September 7, 2017 at Wentworth Heights Nursing Home after a short final illness. Jim was predeceased by his wife Diane Thornley in 2016. Loving father to daughter Sarah Jane Thornley, son Simon Thornley (Kuniko) and step-father to Bonnie Elder-Frenette (Jean Luc) and Brenda Elder. Beloved Gigi to his grandchildren Hannah and Jin Thornley and Bunka to his step-granddaughters Claire and Danielle Frenette. Also survived by his adored Cousin Margaret “Peggy” Potter and fondly-loved second cousin Susan Marshall (Frank). Jim was a dedicated and senior medical professional, beginning his career in Microbiology at the Middlesex Hospital, London in 1960, being appointed consulting Microbiologist at the Nora Frances Henderson Hospital in September 1971 when he emigrated to Canada. He retired in 1995 as the Chief of Hematology and Microbiology and Head of Pathology at the Henderson Hospital and was a tenured Professor of Microbiology, McMaster University. In later years he suffered much ill health and he bore his many illnesses uncomplainingly and with great courage. The family would like to thank all the staff at Wentworth Heights Scottsdale for their diligent care and attention. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E., on Tuesday, September 12th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 272 Wilson St. E., Ancaster, on Wednesday, September 13th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
