EdwardBARR

BARR, Edward Passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-five, on the afternoon of Sunday, October 1, 2017 at home with family. Mr. Barr was born on February 1, 1932, in Verdun to Edward and Catherine Barr. Serving in the Royal Canadian Airforce was among his proudest achievements along with a long and successful career in the grocery business. You have never met a man so passionate about the chocolate content of a chocolate chip cookie or the packaging of a private label salad dressing. A life-long learner, Ed quickly moved onto investing, forever determined to be the best Ed Barr he could be. Although his commitment to his career is undeniable, nothing could rival this great man’s commitment to family. Whether as a son, brother, husband, father or Popa, Ed was first class and exemplary. He never, ever, ever gave up! He married his wife Shirley in 1961 and they remained happily married for 56 years until the time of his passing. She meant everything to him. A strong and supportive father to both of his children. The lovingness, pragmatism, the passion with which he lived his life and his unyielding commitment to family and community is apparent in both his children, Cathy and Mark. He was a very proud father. He developed strong and full relationships with all five of his adored grandchildren. The best Popa ever. A generous philanthropist, Ed gave willingly and often anonymously to support and empower his community. Ed will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A Visitation for Ed will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4th. The Funeral will be held at St Andrews Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville on Thursday, October 5th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Oakville Club.
