Edward KOEN

October 7, 1936 – May 19, 2017

Passed away peacefully from heart failure at Providence Healthcare in Toronto. He is survived by Louise, his spouse of 45 years, and his children Michael (married to Vivian) and Elizabeth. He was Grandpa to David, Alex and Sarah.

Ed (Eddy) was predeceased by his parents John and Loretta (nee Donoghue), brothers Vincent, James, William and Robert, and niece Ann. He enjoyed spending time with his extensive family of nieces, nephews and cousins, and with Louise’s family into which he was warmly welcomed.

Ed was born in Kingston and grew up on the family farm. He was baptized at St. Patrick’s Church in nearby Railton, and graduated from Regiopolis College and Queen’s University (BA and MBA). He began his career at Bell Canada before moving to Seneca College as a Professor and then Dean of computer studies.

Ed maintained many strong friendships from all parts of his life, and was very community oriented. He was involved in our local Maryvale community association and was an active member of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul as Chair of the Toronto Central Council. He enjoyed curling at the Tam Heather Club with The Venerables and Mixed Seniors, and skipped his team to win the Monte Miller trophy in his final bonspiel.

Ed maintained close ties to the family farm where he regularly took his children as they grew up and later entertained his grandchildren. He took great care of his garden and was known to some as Uncle Bean.

Ed was known as a calm and patient person, an organizer of people, a teacher of baseball, and a master muffin baker. He had a quiet demeanor and great sense of humour. He enjoyed road trips, skiing, and spending time outdoors. He was kind and generous, and always of great help to his many friends and family.

Donations may be made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul or a charity of choice.
