ENGEL, Elisabeth Frieda (nee Veile) —
January 20, 1922 – August 12, 2016
Elisabeth Frieda Engel, wife of Erich Peter, sister of Hanna and Ruth, aunt to Heinz, mother of Andreas, Christoph and Michele, grandmother to Emily and Patrick, and great-grandmother to Chase and Ava Ley, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on August 12, 2016 at the age of 94 after a long courageous battle with cancer, the evil disease. Born and raised in pre-war Germany, she married Franz Komm at the beginning of WWII, and lost him while he was posted on the eastern front. Her second marriage was to Erich Peter Engel, who was also severely wounded in the war and predeceased her in 1995. They immigrated to Canada in 1956 to build a new life and bring up their children in a better environment. Though life was hard at times, retirement brought with it a little peace and quietude for them although she always kept herself busy keeping house as she had all her life. The past several years bore down on her as the cancer slowly progressed but she never complained. Her struggles are finally over now and she is in a better place.
