ELIZABETHJANE (BETH) GALLIVAN

ELIZABETH (BETH) JANE GALLIVAN It is with great sadness that we announce Beth’s passing. She lived valiantly with brain cancer for three years until April 22, 2017. She was 45. Beth is deeply mourned by her parents Sheila and Robert (Bob) and her sisters Anne-Marie, Kathleen, Jennifer and Monica. She will be missed by her brother-in- law and seven beloved nieces and nephews. Beth grew up in Beaconsfield, Quebec and Thornhill, Ontario, the youngest of the five Gallivan girls. She graduated from St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto. She spent time travelling the British Isles and then returned to Toronto where she enjoyed working at Manulife and CIBC. She also enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement. Beth was a presence wherever she went. She had a spirit of adventure, trying everything from hang gliding to kayaking with whales and travelled extensively in Europe, including a visit to Vienna and Salzburg as recently as November. She loved Paris for the art and food, Maui for snorkeling, Buffalo for the bargains and Ontario lakes for the camping and kayaking, which she did on so many summer weekends. She told a funny story well. She loved singing with the Irish Choral Society, playing in the pool and outings with her book clubs. Beth doted on her Havanese, Dorito. The Gallivan family is grateful to her dear friend, Scott Woods, for his devoted care of Beth and to the teams at the Odette Cancer Centre and palliative care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital. Beth was throughout sustained by her faith and devotion to the rosary. The family will receive friends at the Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East (west of Bayview Avenue), from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26th. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place within the funeral home in the Chapel of St. Joseph on Thursday, April 27th at 11:30 a.m. The final rite of committal and interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beth’s name to the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation. Online condolences and directions may be found at www.catholic-cemeteries.com
