Douglas FACEY
FACEY, Douglas Passed away at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on November 13, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Doug was born on September 15, 1933 in Westville, Nova Scotia to Gordon and Mary (Fleming) Facey. He spent the majority of his adult life in Hamilton, Ontario where he was co-owner of John Thomas Cartage. Doug will be remembered for his passion of racing, be it Pro Challenge and Legend race cars or Standardbred horses, and for his great love of animals, nature, fishing and cottage life on Jack’s Lake. His winters were happily spent in Hernando, Florida and he had just returned from an exceptional week away. Most importantly was Doug’s love for his family. Best Dad and Grandpa ever, most favourite uncle many times over. His stubborn nature could never quite hide the generous heart and great sense of humour that was truly Doug. Doug was predeceased by his sister Ella Mae (John Henry) McNeil of Nova Scotia and will be missed by siblings Gordon (Catherine) Facey of Coburg, Dorothy (Earl) Fraser of Nova Scotia, Mildred (Peter) Facey of Montreal and Chuck (Carol Lambert) Facey of Nova Scotia. He was a dedicated father to Jeffrey (Laurie Care) Facey of Omemee and Kimberley (Gordon Tucker) Facey of Apsley. Over the top grandfather to Jordan Tucker of Apsley. You will be so missed. And by many nieces and nephews. And by Ann Brave who was just like a daughter. Doug recently reunited with family members Beverley (David) Gray of Binbrook and her daughter Kim Sopko. Doug was also a great friend to many. He was predeceased by his best friend Gwen Scott in 2012 and will be fondly remembered by friends Dennis Thomson, Herbie Graham, Jamie Chalmers and Ken Nicholson. Please join family and friends on Saturday, December 3, between 2-4 p.m. at the Hamilton Air Force Association, 128 King St. East, Dundas, to share memories and to honour a great friend and family man. Donations can be made to the Highland Animal Relief Team (HART) www.hartdogrescue.ca or to the Wind Dancer Pony Rescue www.winddancerponies.org. All contributions will continue to help the animals that were so important to him.
