With love we sadly announce the passing of Fanika Car (90) at McCall Centre in Etobicoke on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Having lived a long and fulfilling life, her last days were peaceful. She was born December 27, 1925 in Croatia, daughter of the late Mate and Mary Spahich. Predeceased by her husband and best friend of 55 years, Alex, her son Zelimir “Jerry” and her sisters Anne and Kate. Lovingly remembered and missed by her son Alex Jr. and wife Lori; grandchildren Danielle, Stephanie, Laura and Adrian and great-grandchildren Katie, Nicholas, Marshall and Jordan. Dearly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Irena, Miko, Frank, Brian, Mike, Linda, Natalja, Tatjana, Erica and Stefan. She left the former Yugoslavia in 1955, meeting Alex in Austria and later marrying in Canada. Together they worked and lived side by side building a new life in a new country. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and spending time with and taking care of her family. Her spirit, humor and wonderful memories are forever in our hearts. Friends will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W., (between Islington and Kipling Aves., 416-259-3705) on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal (739 Brown’s Line, Etobicoke) at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
