Florence Mary HOWAT

HOWAT, Judy (Florence) – Passed away on April 27, 2017 in her 95th year. Predeceased by husband Peter and daughter Diana. Survived by and missed by her son Ian, his wife Colleen and three grandchildren Douglas, Meaghan and Kyrsten. Judy was a special woman with a sharp memory, who cared about everyone she met. She could, and would, tell you the life story of the man who delivered her weekly pizza, or did her nails, or cut her hair. And Judy had a full life of her own. She was born in England in 1922 and served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during World War II. After the war she married Peter, a Royal Engineer and followed him to his posting in Southern Rhodesia, undertaking the twenty eight day journey by boat and train by herself, to the consternation of her family. She lived there four years and gave birth to her daughter, Diana. In 1951, after a brief stay in England, the three of them immigrated to Canada, making it home for the rest of their lives. Judy lived long enough to watch her family grow old. To live through the loss of her husband and daughter. Though her mobility had slowly declined at the end of her 95 years, she still completed her daily crossword puzzles and kept up with friends and events around the world through internet and email. She lived in her home of 66 years right up until the end, as she wished and as she insisted. We are deeply grateful to her caregivers and her generous neighbours who helped to make this possible. Visitation will be held at the JERRETT FUNERAL HOME, 6191 Yonge Street, North York, on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. A private Memorial Service will be held a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
